The Identity 

In order to give Woodbrook its character and variety, every aspect of design has been taken into account

• Local history and architectural traditions;
• Varied types and sizes of housing;
• The character of each area;
• The existing landscape;
• Tree and shrub species;
• Community facilities and public buildings;
• Access for cars, pedestrians, cyclists and public transport;
• Environment

All of these elements have been interwoven to create one vision, expressed in a detailed Design Brief and a Masterplan. This design approach has given Woodbrook its own unique identity:

Two vital ingredients give a village or town its character: the sense of place, and the people who live there. At Woodbrook, imaginative planning and design has been used to create a place with a strong identity – a firm foundation for building a community.

The Village Green and Square are at the heart of Woodbrook. The Square, a high quality, paved open space is designed to be a pleasure to use, whether for convenience shopping or simply as a meeting place.

A Village identity and sense of place have been created with housing tightly enclosing the street and parking situated to the rear of the houses in courtyards. The new homes surround the Village Green and Square are designed to encourage the community to engage with each other. To bring greater life and vitality to the village community.

Eight acres of land has been made available by the developers of Brokerstown Village to the South Eastern Education and Library Board for a Seven Class Primary School and Lisburn City Council for the development of a Sports Hall and playing fields. The developers are also financing the council for the construction of the Sports Hall, all weather and grass playing pitches. From discussions with both parties we understand these facilities will be completed by 2008-2010.

Beyond its central core, Woodbrook provides a fascinating variety of housing areas, each with their own character and identity. Woodbrook provides new homes to suit a wide range of needs, from 2 & 3 bedroom apartments to 2, 3 and 4 bedroom townhouses and 4 bedroom detached homes.
